Fine chemical industry is the strategic focus of the development of the chemical industry in the world today, and it is also one of the fastest growing economic sectors. Vigorously developing fine chemical industry is the strategic focus of countries around the world to adjust the structure of the chemical industry, increase the output value of the chemical industry, and expand economic efficiency. At present, China has become the world's largest producer of chemical products. In the future, it is expected to maintain a relatively high growth rate and further expand its influence. From the perspective of the development trend of the chemical industry, there is still much room for development in the field of fine chemicals in China.
In the fine chemical industry and the new environmental protection material industry, the main products currently include trimellitic anhydride, trioctyl trimellitate, and new high-end product vinyl toluene that has been officially produced and sold. With the development of the fine chemical industry and the continuous increase of demand in the downstream market, the global trimellitic anhydride market has shown steady and rapid growth in recent years. From 2010 to 2016, world consumption of anhydride decreased from 142,000 tons to 181,000 tons. It is estimated that by 2020, the consumption of anhydride in the world will increase to 230 thousand tons and will show a faster growth rate in the next few years.
With the development of the international partial anhydride industry and the shift of related industries to China, the focus of the trimellitic anhydride industry has shifted from the developed countries to the emerging economies represented by China, and domestic consumption of anhydride has also rapidly increased.
According to data released by the Analytical Industry Research Center of Xinsijie for the "2017-2021 market analysis of partial anhydride industry market survey and investment forecast and analysis report", in 2016, the world's consumption of anhydride was mainly concentrated in Asia, North America and Western Europe, and the consumption was different. It is 110,000 tons, 46,000 tons and 25,000 tons, respectively accounting for 62%, 26% and 12% of the total consumption. In terms of production capacity, as of the end of 2016, partial anhydride production facilities are mainly distributed in China, the United States, and Italy.
Among them, China has become the world's largest producer of partial anhydride, accounting for 57% of the world's total production capacity; the United States followed by 33%. Domestic consumption increased from 40,000 tons in 2010 to 90,000 tons in 2016, with an average compound annual growth rate of 13.5%. It is estimated that domestic consumption will increase to 130,000 tons by 2020, and the compound annual growth rate is expected to reach 10% from 2016 to 2020.
The three major downstream requirements for plasticizers, powder coatings, advanced insulation materials and high temperature curing agents are the main driving forces for the rapid development of the trimellitic anhydride market. In 2016, domestic consumption of anhydride was similar to that of world consumption of anhydride, which was mainly used for the production of trioctyl trimellitate and powder coatings. The ratio of total anhydride accounted for 92% and 95% of domestic and international consumption of trimellitic anhydride, respectively. %.
Analysts in the chemical industry in Xinsijie said that in recent years, the production companies in Europe, America and other countries have faced great competition pressure from Chinese companies in the area of partial anhydride. Chinese enterprises are able to achieve independent innovation and continuously improve the technological content of their products. The quality of products can fully meet the needs of various downstream buyers and manufacturers, plus sufficient domestic investment sources, relatively low equipment costs, and low production costs. The focus of the trimellitic anhydride industry production shifts from a developed country to an emerging economy.
